No matter if your company sends you to the photographer or if you come by yourself, the wardrobe chosen for your business portraits will show your professional identity. Be aware that most people see you first on a picture before meeting face to face.
If you do not know what to wear, here are some tips:
– Choose clothing which is suitable for your job, without losing your personality. Take a look at your boss or other leaders to choose the appropriate dress. Avoid combinations that are typical for other professions. Dress to impress your ideal client.
– Do not choose worn-out clothes as it will be seen on the picture. The same for your shoes.
– Choose solid colors instead of patterns as these will create a moiré effect in the picture. If you want to use patterns, combine them with solids.
– Even if you don’t want to dress too conservative, avoid outfits that look too casual. There is a way between two styles.
– Choose simple accessories: avoid for example large jewelry as most headshots will be cropped to your face. The accessories are meant to be the finishing touch.
– Contrast with the background: ask for the CI guidelines usually applied for headshots in your company. If there is none, talk to the photographer and find out together which background is appropriate.
– Take your phone and other stuff out of your trousers, as they leave traces. Bring a comb or brush with you. Clean your glasses also.
